I'm Sam and I was named after the Dr. Seuss
character because my pet people thought that would
be cute.
Actually, I am cute. Quite cute, in fact. I know
this because my pet people tell me so all the time.
I don't dispute their claims--they are right most of
the time. Especially when they tell me that I'm
cute.
My first people said that I would be a little
dog--that I'd never be over about five pounds. Well,
they were wrong about that. I actually weigh about
14 pounds. They also said that I'm a Peke-a-Poo
(doesn't that sound terribly sissified?), but my
markings make me look like a Rottweiler puppy, even
though I'm totally full grown.
Strange-people-whom-I-don't-know will talk baby-talk
to me and have no clue how ridiculous they sound
doing it. I am, after all, an adult. My pet people
just smile and tell me that I'm cute. And, of
course, they're absolutely right.
I live with my pet people. Honey is a middle-aged
male and Babe is a middle-aged female. Boy Child is a
young adult male who is the offspring of Honey and
Babe. Honey and Babe also have a young adult female
offspring who doesn't live here anymore. Girl Child
lives somewhere far, far away and I don't get to see
her too often.
For the most part, my people are very well trained.
When it's time to eat, they get me food. When I need
to go outside to transact some business, they open
the door. When I want to play, they will throw
something for me to fetch. All in all, it's a pretty
good way of life.
I think, though, that Honey and Babe have some
somewhat skewed priorities. For example, I know that
the most important things in life are Eating,
Playing, and Sleeping. Honey and Babe do all of
those things, but they also spend a lot of time with
something called "Working." I'm not exactly sure
what that is, but it means that they disappear for
hours at a time and when they come home, sometimes
they're a little stressed out. It takes some Eating,
Playing, and Sleeping to get them over that. I don't
really understand that "Working" stuff--I probably
need to do some research to see how I can correct
the problem through additional training. I know that
they're both capable of learning because they're
very well trained otherwise.
This site is mostly about me, but because my pet
people are an important part of my life, it's
about them, too . . .
